Spring has Sprung

What's coming up at Vulcan Park & Museum this spring - Vulcan Trail Hikes for Tykes, Girl Scouts Going Green, historical Birmingham walking tours! It’s always a great time to visit Vulcan Park & Museum with your family (see here). However, spring is an especially great time with all kinds of fun upcoming events planned for adults and children alike. And bonus! In case you haven’t heard, Vulcan Park is now sensory inclusive!

Hikes for Tykes

I’m personally really excited about the Hikes for Tykes series that Vulcan does in partnership with Fresh Air Family. These hikes occur the first Saturday of each month (from March through October) from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. It’s specifically tailored to preschool-age children, but all are welcome.

The activity changes monthly! For example, Fresh Air Family naturalist Carl Sloan recently led preschool children and their families on a discovery hike looking for all that crawls or creeps just beneath the soil. Roly-polys, slimy salamanders, worms, and bugs can all be found along the Kiwanis Vulcan Trail.

This event is free with a suggested donation of $5.00 per family.

Vulcan’s Going Green

What's coming up at Vulcan Park & Museum this spring - Vulcan Trail Hikes for Tykes, Girl Scouts Going Green, historical Birmingham walking tours!Green for Girl Scouts, that is. Troops and individual Girl Scouts are invited to Girl Scouts: Going Green at Vulcan on April 13th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. A portion of this program will take place on Vulcan Trail, where participants will locate plant species and minerals to create their very own nature-inspired art. Then in the Vulcan Center Museum, scouts will learn about Birmingham’s industrial history while comparing historical and modern art-making techniques. In addition to earning Vulcan’s Going Green patch, scouts will also complete the steps to earn the Brownie Outdoor Art Creator and Junior Outdoor Art Explorer badges! The cost is $12.00 per scout and $5.00 per chaperone. You can register for it here.

Walkin’ in Memphis (er . . . Birmingham!)
