Moms Night Out in Birmingham

Planning a Moms’ Night Out in Birmingham

I adore my kids; I absolutely love them to pieces. Granted, they drive me up the wall sometimes because we are currently in a stage of fighting with each other constantly, but, at the end of the day, I wouldn’t trade one second of it. I adore being a mom. I love the hustle and bustle of getting each kid to where she needs to be for school and practice and play dates. I love watching Moana for the one millionth time this week. But sometimes, I need to spend time with other adults.

It’s so easy to get caught up in keeping up with everyone’s schedule and making sure they are all taken care of that we forget to take care of ourselves. It’s easy to feel guilty for leaving the kids for a few hours to go hang out with my own friends sans Cheeto faces and sticky fingers. But one of the most important things I have learned as a mom over the last couple of years is that taking that time for myself makes me a better mom. It keeps me from feeling like my nerves are about to explode when they get into their fifteenth argument in ten minutes over something minuscule. It gives me more patience when they spill something on the floor that I just scrubbed. Just taking a few hours for myself to catch up with friends can send me home feeling refreshed and ready to mom again.

I’m a small town girl, so before I came to Birmingham, if I wanted to go out with friends there were literally about two options. Now that I am in Birmingham, it can sometimes feel overwhelming when I’m tasked with choosing the place to meet. SO, I’ve compiled a list for you of my favorite places for Moms’ Night Out in Birmingham.

1) MELT Birmingham

Y’all MELT is my favorite. I could eat there every day and not complain. (Mac Melt + Bacon = DELICIOUS.) But also, I love the atmosphere for a girls’ night out. There are games to play outside if you have to wait for a table and board games to play inside while you wait for your food. The staff has been great every time I have been there, and I’ve never had to wait too long for my food. AND they just announced a new Trussville location, which is not far from my house, and I’m a little over-the-top excited (Dreams do come true, y’all). It’s one of my top choices and it never disappoints.

2) Painting with a Twist

I love to paint, and Painting with a Twist provides the perfect opportunity for me to paint and hang out with a group of friends. The last time I went we had the best instructor; she was witty and entertaining while also being patient with everyone in the group. We played games for prizes and even had a dance-off. So much fun, and you have a nice painting to bring home when it’s over.

3) O’Henry’s Coffee

This may seem like a rather random place to be on this list, but I love coffee and O’Henry’s is one of my favorite places to gather with friends. This is one of those places I tend to gravitate towards when Girl Time is going to consist of catching up on life and just chatting (which is SO needed). I love to gather around one of the tables inside with my friends and a warm cup of coffee in my hands while we catch up, vent, laugh, cry, or whatever else we need.

4) Coyote Drive-In

I love, love, love visiting the Coyote Drive-In theater in Leeds. You get a double feature for less than the cost of a regular movie ticket, you get to lounge in your own chairs or vehicle, and there are plenty of things to do if you want to get there early to claim a parking spot. There is a full restaurant along with the usual refreshments and putt-putt golf. There’s also the outlet mall, of course. Get there early, grab a good parking spot, and then hang out for a bit before enjoying a double feature together.

5) Birmingham Art Crawl

The Birmingham Art Crawl is the first Thursday of every month from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. The event takes place rain or shine along 2nd Ave North around the Pizitz Building. Head down there with your friends and see the Pizitz Building be transformed into a gallery of incredibly talented local artists. It’s super fun and if you’ve never been, this needs to go on the top of your Birmingham Bucket List.

Maintaining friendships is crucial. It’s easy to lose ourselves in the journey of motherhood. Be intentional and take some time out for yourself; maintain those connections, and just enjoy yourself for a bit.

  1. I’ve been wanting to try the drive-in but haven’t gotten around to it. I didn’t know they had a full restaurant; that’s so awesome!
