Birmingham

Even though I’ve always lived in the South, I never imagined that I would one day live in Birmingham, Alabama. I was a Vocal Performance major in college and had dreams of moving to New York to live as a starving artist, but my life changed direction when I moved to Clarksville, TN to get my master’s degree. New to the area, I found a church and soon noticed a handsome guy who would one day become my husband. I had a boyfriend at the time (and that’s another story!), but we were married two years later.

Newly engaged and before kids!

The craziest thing we have ever done was pack up and move to Birmingham, but I have come to love it here! My husband has been in the ministry ever since I’ve known him and for years he had a heart to plant a church. A door finally opened in Birmingham and we moved our family here two years ago. We have loved our time here so far. We enjoy visiting the nearby playgrounds, exploring the McWane Science Center, and cheering our kids on in baseball and gymnastics. I have also had fun trying out all the local coffee shops!

Mom

Nothing could have prepared me for the crazy world of motherhood! I’m so thankful for my three amazing children (ages seven, six, and three) who make me want to pull my hair out and melt my heart all in the same day. Parenting is by far the hardest thing I have ever done, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

My three crazy kids

My motherhood journey has been anything but easy. I have had my share of trials and heartache along the way. My first two pregnancies were perfect, but my third baby suddenly passed away when I was 39 weeks pregnant. I was devastated. I learned a lot very quickly during that time of my life. After gathering the courage to try again, my fourth baby almost died soon after birth from an unforeseen intestinal blockage. By the grace of God, her condition was caught in time. An emergency surgery saved her life, but she remained in the NICU for nearly three months and had to undergo one more surgery before coming home. Today, she is happy and healthy. We are so thankful for our rainbow baby!

Collective

Birmingham Mom Collective was one of the first Facebook groups I joined after moving to Birmingham. I was instantly a fan and followed along for two years before finally applying to be a contributor. I am super excited to be a part of this amazing team! My heart is to share some of the things I have learned on my journey in the hopes that women will be encouraged to “take heart.” Life isn’t easy, but there is always hope. As John 16:33 says, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
