Birmingham

Hello! My name is Alissa and I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for nearly 13 years. We share four beautiful children together. We just relocated back to Birmingham two years ago after living in Texas. My husband and I were married and had our first kid while he attended UAB and earned his degree in electrical engineering. Shortly after graduation he accepted a position to work at a financial institution in San Antonio, Texas, and we lived there for eight years.

We relocated from San Antonio back to Birmingham during the pandemic since my husband’s career involved working remotely. Since I was pregnant with our fourth child, we decided it would be ideal to be near family that could help support us with raising our kids. We love living in Birmingham because this is where most of our family resides. It’s really nice to be able to celebrate holidays and special occasions together!

We live in Chelsea but are zoned for Pelham city limits, and my children attend school in the Pelham school district. We enjoy the local places and activities around town, but also love how this area is central to so many wonderful vacation spots like Destin and the Smoky Mountains. Even without traveling, Birmingham offers a large array of activities and delicious restaurants to keep everyone entertained.

Mom

I am known as mom to four kids and two dogs. My children range in age from 11 years old to 15 months old. Our oldest son and daughter receive school accommodations for autism, which just means they interpret things in their environment a bit differently. They can often get overstimulated and are more sensitive to things in their surroundings, like sounds, light, and textures.

Jordan is my 11 year old and he is the sweetest kid you could hope for. He is so kind and loves to give big hugs. My second son, Aidan, is nine, and he is so funny and clever. He is probably the most similar to me when I was a kid, so I learn a lot about myself while parenting him. My daughter, Madison, is three, and is receiving services for autism but hasn’t received a formal diagnosis due to the one-year delay in scheduling here in Birmingham. She is so loving and, being our only daughter, it is hard not to spoil her. She is a daddy’s girl and loves to cuddle with him every night on the rocking chair. Madison loves us to read books to her and is such a great big sister. My youngest son Ethan, is almost 16 months and is mostly interested in being attached to me as much as possible. He still breastfeeds pretty often and loves anything to do with being outdoors or water, so swimming lessons are a must!

Having four kids is amazing and fills me with so much joy, but it also tests my patience and absolutely keeps me on my toes. I look forward to weekends since we get to slow down just a bit to have some family time and attend church together.

Collective

I am an Army Veteran and was a food inspector while enlisted in the military. After serving, I had my first son and began attending school online, pursuing my bachelor’s degree in business administration.

As I neared the end of my school term, I got the entrepreneurial bug and began working on my idea for a more modest way to breastfeed. After graduating, I figured out how to start the patent-filing process and learned to sew just well enough to create a prototype. After a few years and several redesigns, I had a finalized product and was issued my patent with the help of an attorney. I am in the process of doing my first small run and putting together a crowd-funding campaign.

I have my esthetician and real estate licenses, as well. Currently, I work as a real estate agent, assisting families and investors with buying and selling homes. We love the community and the great opportunities for growth in Birmingham. It’s so fun to learn about the wonderful places in the area, try new restaurants, and discover fun activities for families. I love to cook, garden, travel, volunteer, spend time with loved ones, and play with our two dogs—Sophie and Bruno. I look forward to sharing my story and hope that it helps inspire moms to love themselves, care for themselves, and know they can do anything and be as many things as they want.

Alissa Curry
Alissa was born in California, but was an Army brat so she moved often as a child, but spent much of her childhood in Alabama. She met her husband in high school and after getting married, they lived in Birmingham together as he finished up college. Alissa loves living in Birmingham with her family of 6 because of the great family-oriented activities and beautiful scenery. Alissa spent much of her childhood in Alabama as her father retired from the Army here. After finishing up high school, she followed in her father’s footsteps and went on to serve in the same military branch for several years as well. Once she and her husband began to have children, they decided the military life was no longer ideal for them. Alissa received her Bachelor’s in business administration and marketing and afterward she got excited about building a business to solve a issue she struggled with, so she worked toward creating and patenting a modest breastfeeding product. Alissa also holds an esthetician and real estate license and currently works as a real estate agent while balancing caring for her household . You can often find Alissa spending time with her family, baking a new recipe, or trying to learn a new dance for fun.
