Birmingham
Home is where the heart is. I was born right here in Birmingham in 1987. I grew up in Hoover and loved every minute of it. When it came time to go to college, I decided I wanted to do something different. I even told myself I didn’t want to go to school at the University of Alabama or Auburn University (let’s be honest, I would have never gone to Auburn — Roll Tide!) and then end up living right back here in Birmingham like I have seen so many people do. So, I decided to go to school at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. I loved Nashville. I had no intention of leaving. By the time I decided I wanted to get my Master’s Degree in Education, it just so happened the school that best fit my needs was . . . you guessed it . . . right here in Birmingham. So, I moved back home to attend UAB for a short time. I had every intention of moving back to Nashville, but . . . as you can see, home is where the heart is! Funny story, I even ended up getting a teaching job at the very school I attended as a child. Joke’s on me! I have grown to love Birmingham even more as an adult, and there is truly no other place I would want my family to be than right here in the Magic City.
Moms
I am Mama to a little boy, Whitt. He is just shy of two years old, and he is absolutely one of the greatest joys of my life. Watching him grow and learn never, ever gets boring. When I am not chasing him around or saying, “GET DOWN!” I teach kindergarten. I love teaching and I love my students! It is not all rainbows and butterflies, though. Mom guilt is real. There are a lot of days I drop my baby off at his “school” and feel so terrible for leaving him to go be with other people’s children. However, he is in the best of hands and I know I am just one person trying to live out God’s calling on her life. My first, and most important job, is and always will be, wife and mom. I remind myself of that Monday-Friday when the work is overwhelming. I am also incredibly thankful that I have the best schedule in the world — and summers are all ours. We have made so many memories during those times! Whitt is my favorite kid in the world — and I cannot wait to give him a sibling one day!
Blog
I have always loved to write. I just typically don’t do it for other people to read. I decided it was time to step out of my comfort zone! My hope is to bring a unique perspective to other moms as I journey the road of trying to conceive baby number 2. I also hope that I am able to give other moms the perspective of an educator! Be careful, though — we have lots of opinions! (Kidding, kind of.) Oh, and I’m here to be REAL. We moms have the hardest job of all.
