Birmingham

I have lived in Birmingham my whole life. I grew up on the east side of the city — Centerpoint/Roebuck to be exact. What I love most about Birmingham is that you get the “big city” feel without all the hustle and bustle that comes with it. Birmingham is a little hidden gem. People tend to forget about Birmingham, but the city really does have a lot to offer. My favorite thing about raising my daughter here is the history. There is so much to learn about our city, and I love teaching her all about it. We have come a long way and are continuing to grow more and more each year. I also love the fact that there is always something new and exciting to do. Just when I think that we have tackled everything, a new exhibit or attraction pops up!

Moms

I am mom to a six-year-old daughter named Chrislyn. She’s so sweet, smart, and sassy — I wonder where she gets that from? 🙂 There is so much that I love about motherhood, but the main thing is that I always have someone who thinks the world of me. Even on my worst days when I think I’ve completely screwed up and the day can’t get any worse, I love hearing her tell me that I’m “the best mommy ever” all because I remembered to put her favorite snack in her lunch box or I simply turned the t.v. to Disney Junior. On the flip side, the most challenging part of motherhood is trying to make sure that she has an amazing childhood and grows up knowing how important she is to me. Just last week, she asked me to play with her and I told her to “give mommy just a minute”. Her response was, “Seriously, Mommy? All you ever do is your work and laundry!” Although I know that there is more to my life than my “work” and laundry, it broke my heart that she viewed me that way. I never want her to think that I don’t have time for her or I’m ever to busy to spend time with her. So, I have made it my goal to carve out at least 30 minutes a night to spending real-deal quality time with her — whether it be reading a book, playing restaurant, or any other random thing that she comes up with.

Blog

I am excited to be a contributor for the Birmingham Moms Blog because I love sharing my journey through motherhood. I believe all moms have a perspective, but we also all have one common goal and that is to raise healthy, happy children while maintaining some level of sanity (if that’s even possible, ha!).  It’s really nice to have other moms to bounce questions, ideas, and concerns off of, and I look forward to forming some lasting, life-long connections through this platform. I have a really interesting story (testimony) that I look forward to sharing on the blog soon. I’m confident that it will help someone else who may be going through the same challenge in life and motherhood. I have to gather my strength and courage to talk about it, but I hope you will stick around to hear!

Jen W
Jen was born and raised in the Birmingham, Alabama area. She is obsessed with Pinterest, HGTV, and all things monogrammed. She’s been told that she puts the “pro” in procrastination, but definitely conquers any task put in front of her with ease. Jen is mom to a smart, talkative, and sometimes (always) sassy six-year-old daughter, affectionately known as Bug. When she’s not taking orders from Bug, she enjoys binge-watching reality TV and spending time with her close-knit family. She also loves traveling and watching college football (Roll Tide!). Working full time in the hospitality industry and balancing the demands of motherhood forces Jen to be intentional with her time and friendships. She gets through tough times by remembering that “things won’t always be this way”. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel – sometimes the fight to get there is just harder. Her daily goal is to make time to be silly with Bug, which often includes their dance and song battles on the way to school each morning. Jen looks forward to sharing her journey through motherhood, while making some great friends along the way.
