Birmingham

I have lived in Birmingham for almost three years, and I love it! Birmingham is such a fun place that I think is often overlooked by larger cities in the South. There are many fun outdoor activities, museums, parks, creeks, and sporting events, just to name a few. The people are welcoming and friendly, and can I pause for a second to mention the barbecue?? I have always known that Birmingham would have a piece of my heart, but now I’ve come to the conclusion that my thighs will always have a part of Birmingham with them too! I have had such a great time exploring Birmingham with my family, and I hope to share some of our favorite spots with you.

Moms

I am momma to five darling children – 4 girls (Eleanor, Elisabeth, Olivia and Anna) and 1 boy (Henry). I have had five children in a little over five years which has managed to make life always entertaining, sometimes crazy and never boring.  I love being a mom, but I know that it takes a village to raise righteous children (and not lose your mind in the process) and that a woman doesn’t have to actually bear children to be an influence for good.   I once read a meme that said, “Motherhood – the scariest ‘hood you’ll ever go through.” Isn’t that the truth? Everything about motherhood is challenging, but I know that we are all up for the challenge, especially as we love, lift up, and laugh with other moms going though this same roller coaster of a journey!

I really believe that motherhood should be fun. I want my children to look back at their time in the home and smile as they replay the memories of family date nights, living room dance parties, and really amazing food their mom cooked. (Okay, that last one is a stretch. At this point I don’t think they will ever like my food, though I know they will always remember fondly the nights their mom didn’t have it together and ordered pizza in a desperate attempt to save dinner.) I really hope that I can somehow share with you how I have learned to find joy in the chaos of motherhood, which usually includes insane amounts of dry shampoo and last minute orders from Amazon (because who goes to the store with a five kids, three of which are girls all one and younger?!  If you do happen to see that crazy person at the store, stop her and say, “Hi!”  It’s me!).

Motherhood is a whirlwind, but at the end of the day, I love being a girl mom, a boy mom, a mom of multiples, a stay-at-home mom, and a part-of-the-time working dietitian mom. I look forward to sharing some of my mom adventures with you!

Amber S
Amber grew up traveling the world as an Army Brat. She now lives in Vestavia Hills with her husband, Russell, and their five children, Eleanor (6), Henry (4), Elisabeth (1) and twins Olivia and Anna (4 months). With three children age one year and under, you could say her life is a little crazy right now. Amber graduated from The University of Alabama with a BS in Food and Nutrition. She is a full-time momma and a part-of-the-time Registered Dietitian. She spends most of her time changing diapers (looooots of diapers), negotiating how many bites each child has left to eat, and chasing and giggling with her little toddlers. She spends her free time trying to convince her children that homemade mac and cheese is actually better than the blue box and that ice cream doesn't really count as a milk substitute (though BlueBell makes a pretty good argument). She also loves spending time with her husband, traveling, cooking, and kicking butt at spin class (too bad her butt hasn’t gotten the memo…!). She is the best online shopper and worst “only buy what’s on the list” shopper. She is an advocate of womanhood, including the divine role of mother. She has learned that if ever given the option to laugh or cry, always choose to laugh.
