On Fridays we dine out. That has been part of the fabric of our family for as long as I can remember. My husband and I both did it with our families growing up, and we do it with our girls now. Unless we have another obligation, we look forward to our Friday nights out and about as a family. 

Our Friday night dinners look a little different these days. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic hit the restaurant industry hard. Not just here in Birmingham but all across the country. We have shied away from anything indoors in the interest of safety and it’s been hard. We want to support our local favorites, and no one wants to cook at home on a Friday night.

At first, we significantly scaled back our Friday dinner options to only those who provide carry-out options. Up until recently, we had yet to venture out into a restaurant as a family. Now we are looking to expand our dinner nights to include restaurants with outdoor seating areas. 

This allows us to still get out in a manner we are comfortable with, keeping our distance and enjoying the fresh air and good food. Many area restaurants provide designated patio dining, and others have only recently made upgrades to their existing locations to offer outdoor seating areas.
