Money Saving Mamas :: Your “Ibotta” Guide and Why You Should Be Using It

Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored in any way, I’m just a big fan of getting cash back on purchases and want to spread the word about this amazing app called Ibotta!

I’ve never been into couponing. Not seriously, anyway. I had a few friends who were “extreme couponers”, so I tried it for a little while after they gave me some tips, but it didn’t stick. It took too much time to pore over Super Savers, cut out the coupons, and then organize them into a divided pouch. It was very involved when it came to the different rules each store had and I was never that comfortable doing it, so I quit. Saving money was too time consuming … or so I thought. Then along came Ibotta.

What is Ibotta?

Ibotta is a money saving app that allows you to get cash back on products you use every day. I first heard about it from a friend about 3 years ago, but I lazily assumed it would be too much work and didn’t jump onboard. That all changed a few months back when the same friend casually mentioned how much Ibotta money she had just cashed out. I had a brief “Shut the front door!” moment and then immediately downloaded the app. I’ve been hooked ever since and haven’t looked back.

How it Works

In some ways, Ibotta is similar to “clipping” online digital coupons. You find products you are interested in purchasing and then add the item to your list to apply the savings. Just like coupons, Ibotta will tell you how much money is attached to each item. However, instead of having the amount deducted from your total at the cash register, Ibotta will give you cash back into your account. Once you’ve made your purchase, simply submit your receipt into the Ibotta app. Your rebates will be credited to your account within 48 hours. Once your account hits $20, you are able to start withdrawing your money.

Why it’s Awesome

Aside from the obvious (extra money in your bank account), you can pair Ibotta rebates with sales and coupons. This is great news for all you Publix fans. You can get cash back on any Ibotta items that are on the BOGO list AND pair it with a digital/paper coupon if you find one. I call it a “unicorn” when all 3 stars align in this magical way. Some rebates you can use up to five times in one purchase, so you can max out if you really find a great deal.

Ibotta is also so convenient with its scan feature. If you don’t have time to scroll through the app for products, you can scan any product barcode directly to see if there are any offers available. I love to use it after my husband comes home from a grocery run. I do a quick scan of all the items to check for offers and then load up any that I find. Once I submit the receipt into Ibotta, I’m done. Super easy.
