This is My Mommy Christmas List

My “Mommy Christmas List”

(To the tune of “Grown-up Christmas List” — here’s a video of the popular Amy Grant version if you’re not familiar!)

Do you remember me?

You sat upon my knee

I sang to you, with new mom fantasies

Well you’ve grown a little now

And I need all the help allowed

I’m a mom, but my heart still can dream

So, here’s my current wish

My Mommy Christmas list

All for myself, so kiddos please take heed

No more tantrums in Walmart

That Baby Shark would never start

And toys would have no missing parts

And I could pee without a “friend”

Finish a text AND press send

And nap time would never end, no

This is my Mommy Christmas List.

As a new mom I believed

The sweetest sight to see

Was a new baby looking up at me

But Heaven only knows

That late nights and a runny nose

Can wreck our brains and make a weary soul

No more sleep regression nights

That my child would never bite

And time would end all fights

And I could grab lunch with a friend

And have a chat that’s not pretend

And free time would never end, no

This is my Mommy Christmas list.

Meaning in the Chaos

You know, the stress of the holidays can tempt us into thinking like my little song . . .

If only he would nap a little longer!
If I hear that song one more time, I’m going to lose it!
I don’t think I can survive one more errand with a cranky toddler!

The chaos of Christmas increases when children are added to the equation, but the meaning never changes. We have Christmas because God so loved the world that he sent his only Son. Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus amidst any chaos that ensues.

So, my real “Mommy Christmas List” is actually quite short:
  • That my children would know the true meaning of Christmas.
  • That all children would feel loved and cared for, at Christmas and all year round.
  • That I will find a way, in and between chaotic moments, to be an encouragement, not a drain, to those around me throughout the holidays.
Merry Christmas, Mamas!! Kiss those babies!
