Where You Should Be With Your Family :: Mountain Brook Holiday Parade

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and there are without a doubt many events that make the Magic City magical during the holiday season. If you are like me, though, it is too easy to get overwhelmed by allllllll the options, so today I will leave you with just one “don’t-miss” suggestion: the Annual Mountain Brook Holiday Parade.

Santa Claus is coming to town…Dec. 3rd!

Mountain Brook Holiday Parade Low-Down

This year, Mountain Brook’s Holiday Parade will take place at 3:00 on Sunday, December, 3rd in Mountain Brook Village. Roads will close down right before the parade begins, so plan to come a few minutes early and park as close to the Village as you can get — perhaps at Shades Valley Presbyterian Church, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, or the old Mountain Brook Plaza. Plus, you’ll want to get there early enough to claim free hot chocolate and candy canes, hot tea and cookies, and cotton candy. Then, set up camp along the parade route, which will include Cahaba Road, Culver Road, and Petticoat Lane.

Parade-goers can expect to see the Mountain Brook High School Marching Band, multiple dancing groups, furry friends, classic cars, Morris Shea Bridge Company’s 18-wheeler masterpiece, Maggie the Mayfield Cow, and more. The parade’s sponsor, Swoop, will kick off the parade with one of their signature creative genius floats, and a fire truck carrying the Big Man himself will bring up the rear. The parade should wrap up by 4:00, but be sure to stick around for a few minutes for a photo opp with Santa up on the stage.

Now THAT is a float masterpiece!

Santa . . . is that you?!?

Plus, while you’re in the area, send a letter to The North Pole from one of Santa’s Mailboxes stationed around town. Santa’s Mailboxes can be found throughout the holiday season at Gilchrist and Swoop in Mountain Brook Village or in front of the Chamber of Commerce or at Smith’s in Crestline Village. Be sure to leave a return address … Santa has been known to write you back!

Pen pal with Santa!

This is one of those FREE family events that puts the merry in the season and makes you feel like you’re in Mayberry. See you this Sunday, December 3rd! For more info, visit here.

What are some other favorite holiday events around town that we won’t want to miss? Please share!

Molly and Carter live in Homewood with their daughter, and they are members of Trinity UMC. On nearly any given night, you will find Molly lying on the couch watching HGTV while scouring the internet for the next local festival/story time/restaurant/bargain in the area. Then she will get veryyyy excited to go to bed.
