3 Options for Family-Friendly Halloween Weekend Fun!

Halloween weekend is upon us — time to put the finishing touches on those costumes, grab your go-to candy bag, and head out into the city! Or consider a spooky drive out of the city!

If you have already done the pumpkin patches and Boo at the Zoo but you’re still looking for something festive to do with the family this weekend, check out these special events. 

Nightmare Before Halloween

Oct. 26th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Hoover Library (200 Municipal Drive, Hoover, AL)

This much-anticipated annual event is a highlight of the season for kids of all ages. This year’s Nightmare Before Halloween bash is a Tim Burton-themed party which features games, activities, food, costumed characters and MORE! Dress up and join the festivities!

Spookapalooza!

Oct. 26th – 27th

DeSoto State Park (Fort Payne, AL)

This will be a weekend of fun for the family at Spookapalooza where they will offer trick-or-treating for kids, games, storytelling, live animals, and more. Dress in costume and join in the fun. Spookapalooza will be free and open to the public.

Owl-O-Ween

Oct. 27th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Alabama Wildlife Center, Oak Mountain State Park (Pelham, AL )

Owl-o-ween will be a Halloween-themed event where the family can see Alabama’s owls up close. The family-friendly activities will include games, crafts, story time, and a Bird of Prey Show featuring live owls. The program will be free with admission to the Oak Mountain State Park: $5/adults or $2 for children and seniors. 


If you’re looking for a safe and convenient place to take your little ones to trick-or-treat, check your local churches to find trunk-or-treats in your area. Many churches set up their parking lots for safe celebrations the night of Halloween!
