DIY Bath Bombs :: A Budget-Friendly Gift Idea

0

I have recently been looking for ways to cut spending at our house. I’ve never been one to spend a lot on my hair or nails, and I rarely buy clothes for myself. I grocery budget the best I can, and we switched from cable to a streaming service years ago.

Recently, as I was looking for a rainy day activity to complete with my toddler, I happened across a recipe for homemade bath bombs. My son loves fun things like this at bath time, so I decided we would make them. Then it occurred to me, we needed a gift for an upcoming birthday party. So, why not give the gift of bath time fun?!

budget-friendly gift - bath bombs make bath time more fun!

These fizzies required only six ingredients, five of which I already had. My son and I had fun making them! We packaged them in mason jars with cute ribbon and voilà! A cute–but inexpensive–gift and an entertaining activity, all in one! My friends, be warned, all of your children may receive these from us in the future! Here are the directions:

DIY Bath Bombs {a budget-friendly gift!}

  • 2 Cups baking soda
  • 1/2 Cup cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • Essential oils
  • Food coloring (if desired)

budget-friendly gift - use ice trays as molds

Directions:

  1. Mix together the baking soda and cream of tartar in a large bowl.
  2. Sift into a new bowl to thoroughly mix.
  3. Add olive oil and 15-20 drops of essential oil and mix.
  4. Add 5-10 drops of food coloring and mix.
  5. Continue to mix while spraying the ingredients with water from the bottle.
  6. Repeat until the mixture holds together but does not feel “wet.” *It should feel like kinetic sand.*
  7. Pack mixture tightly into molds (I used ice cube trays) that have been covered in plastic wrap.
  8. Allow to dry for two to three hours.
  9. Remove bath bombs from molds.
  10. Enjoy!
